NO Audition is required for returning students who desire to remain on their current instrument and in the same group as last year.
YES, AN AUDITION IS REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS WHO:
1. Will be new to HICS CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE REGISTRATION FORM
2. Desire to change instruments and remain in Fantastic Fire band
> Requirement: Play through Verse 1 and Chorus 1 of “Surfin’ USA”
3. Desire to move from Fantastic Fire to The Island Riffs band
> Requirement: Play through Verse 2 and Bridge of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”
4. Desire to sing (limited to 5 singers per band due to vocal mic and mixer capacity)
> Requirement: Play instrument and sing at the same time, the following songs:
* Fantastic Fire: Verse 1 and Chorus 1 of “Surfin’ USA”
* The Island Riffs: Verse 2 and Bridge of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”
5. Desire to be in the new “Rock Band” group (ages 14+)
> Requirements:
* Have at least 3 year's experience on their instrument
* Play a song of their choice, in its entirety
WHAT TO EXPECT ON AUDITION DAY 😊
Upon arrival, Miss Jessie will greet your child and assist them to the audition area.
Two judges and Miss Jessie will be present during your child’s audition process. Our judges, Anne Ferguson (vocal instructor) and Peter Vitale (pianist), are experienced musicians and instructors.
Anne and Peter will sit quietly while your child performs the required piece. Jessie will provide accompaniment if your child needs guidance but will not be part of the judging process.
Your child will be judged based with a music performance rubric which we will provide to you following the audition (not on audition day). Please see our music performance rubric document at the bottom of this page.
After the audition, the HICS board will discuss the results. Kelly Williams will contact you to provide a final confirmation of your child’s placement within a few days.
IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO DO
RETURNING STUDENTS: Please notify Kelly Williams by the August 8 deadline to let her know if your child is planning to return to HICS in the fall. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child is NOT planning to return in the fall and NOT planning to re-audition.
